From the Nliven admin home page, click on the "Events" tab in the left-hand navigation menu. Select “Event Templates”. Find the Event Template you would like to create Promos for. Click the "Edit Template" button on the right-hand side of the Event Template name. Select the "Pricing" tab and choose the "Promos" option.
Promos: are any form of revised ticket pricing. A Promo code can be used to discount tickets or to divide inventory and track campaigns. Every Promo needs one or many rules, which include pricing type, Fee Set, and applicable Events.
A Promo Rule: is the second step in creating a Promo. After building the foundations of the Promo, rules are created to specify what performances/Events the Promo applies to, when it is valid, and how the ticket price will change from the standard price. Promos only work if rules are created.
For details on how to build a successful promo outside of simple creation and editing guidance (provided below), visit the Building a Successful Promo (Promo-Price Table-Fee Set) page or contact the Ticketing Services department.
Create a Promo
To create a new Promo: click the “+ New Promotion” button (image above) in the top right of the Promo information screen. Enter the fields below.
Name: For internal use only.
Code: Customers will enter this code in the “Enter Promo Code” box on the Tickets Page. This code will also be displayed in the Tickets Page URL when the promo is applied. Admins will use this field name to enter the Promo Code when granting access to a User Group at the “Account Settings” tab-> “User Groups”. For further details visit the Create/Edit User Groups page. The code is alphanumeric. It cannot contain special characters or spaces.
Display Name: The display name will go into the public web flow. It will populate on the customer Tickets Page when accessed from the Promo link or after the code is entered into the "Enter Promo Code" box. It will also appear during box office sales for Admin users in the Promotions drop-down menu on the "Sell Tickets" tab.
Active: Toggle on (blue) if the Promo should be available for use immediately (also dependent on booking Start and End Dates configured below).
Active During Presale: Detailed in Presale Configuration section below.
Limit Type: Here you can limit where you want the Promo to be available. The Promo price will only apply to seats available within the selected limit type.
-
None: This means the Promo Code is valid on ALL open inventory.
-
Price Level: This means the Promo will only be valid on certain Price Levels within an auditorium. If Price Level is chosen, you will be prompted to check relevant Price Level boxes in Promo Rules.
-
Hold: This means the Promo will only sell from a certain hold, regardless of the Price. If Hold is selected, you will be prompted to choose the relevant Hold from a drop-down menu in the Promo Rules section.
-
Tag: This allows you to tag a seat to say it applies to the promotion. If Tag is chosen, you will be prompted to check the relevant Tag boxes in Promo Rules. Tag is not available in the "General Admission Mode".
Show All Seats: If the box is checked and there are no seats obtainable at the Price Level assigned to the Promo, the customer will see ALL seats available in the auditorium, ie it will default them to full-price sales. If the box is left unchecked the box office will still be able to see all seats available.
Start Date/Time: This is the date and time that the Promo booking period should begin. For example, If a customer can book a ticket today using the promo code for a performance that starts in six months, then the start date and time is now.
No End Date: If this box is checked, the End Date/Time field is removed; this setting allows the Promo to run indefinitely.
End Date/Time: This is the date and time that the Promo booking period should end.
Require Even Number of Tickets: Check the box to require customers to select an even number of tickets.
Minimum Number of Tickets: Enter an amount to set the minimum number of tickets a customer can select. For example, you could set both minimum and maximum at 4 to force a four-pack ticket sale.
Maximum Number of Tickets: Enter an amount to set a maximum number of tickets customers can purchase per transaction.
Multiples of: When creating or editing a Promo, users can specify the multiples in which quantities of tickets can be purchased. For example, a family ticket bundle: Minimum 4, Maximum 8. This allows a customer to access the family ticket price for four seats at a discounted rate and buy an additional number of seats at the standard price, without having to enter a promo code.
A price type must be created if a family ticket bundle promo is to be offered. This functionality allows a multi-promo purchase in the basket. For more details, visit the Create Price Types in an Event Template page.
Instruction Text: Optional customer-facing field. This displays on the Tickets Page when a customer clicks "Enter Promo Code" then "Unlock Seats" (Note: “Show Promo Code Box” must be toggled on at “Settings” → “Options” for the customer to access; further details are provided in Edit Event Template - Settings Tab page) OR when a customer clicks on a locked seat (meaning the Promo Limit Type configured above is "Hold").
Example of $5 Off Promo using the Instruction Text Field

Available at These Sales Channels: Check as many Sales Channel boxes as the Promo should apply to. Defaults to “Web” upon creation.

Restrict to Credit Card: Check the box to restrict to a particular Credit Card; will be prompted to choose from the drop-down menu of Credit Card Types.
Restrict to Customer Tags: The Promo can be restricted to any Customer Tag configured on this Event Template. Check the applicable box so only customers with the specific Tag can access the Promo (further details provided in Customer Tags - General, Memberships & Marketing Opt-ins and Edit Event Template - Settings Tab pages).
Hide Full Retail Price on Web / Discreet Promo
As an admin, you may not want to raise with web customers that they are receiving a discount. This information is usually communicated by displaying the original price with a strike-through font and then the discounted price in red text, on pages where customers are adding tickets to a cart.
- Part 1. To hide the full retail price on the web, click the checkbox labeled “Hide Full Retail Price on Web”.
-
Part 2: If you would like to use this setting for a Promo being used on the web, the strike-through full retail price is now removed and the normal font for the actual price is displayed. This only applies to sales on the web and no other sales channels. This affects the following locations:
-
Consumer seat map
-
Consumer best available results & modal
-
- Discreet Promo Not Applied - Seat Map
- Discreet Promo Applied - Seat Map
- Discreet Promo Not Applied - Best Available
- Discreet Promo Applied - Best Available
- Part 3: When “Hide Full Retail Price” is applied (via a deep link) there will be no green notification alerting the customer that a Promo was applied.
- Part 4: When “Hide Full Retail Price” is applied (via a deep link) the Promo name & “x” mark to remove is not displayed in the event list area. The customer will see no evidence there was a promo applied.
Group & One-Time Use Promo Codes / Direct Links
Group Promo Code: Check the box to use group Promo code (or One-time Use) functionality. Save the Promotion after checking the box and then go back to the promotion through the edit pencil icon on the main information table to add more details. New options will appear.
-
Download Existing Group Codes: You will be asked how many codes you would like to download as a CSV. For example, entering 1,000 will generate the 1,000 most recent codes created for download. The real-time excel spreadsheet will include Buy URL Code, used date and Order ID. This helps to track which codes are being redeemed.
- Upload New Codes: from your desktop using CSV file with one code per row.
- Generate Codes: You will be asked how many codes you would like to generate. For example, entering 1,000 will generate 1,000 new, random codes.
Presale Configuration (Valid only for WEB Sales Channel)
Active During Presale: Check the box if a Promo is being used for a presale. If the box is checked you will see "Hide presale details from consumers" displayed as a checkbox (default setting is unchecked).
If "Hide presale details from consumers" is left unchecked, the name and validity of the Promo will be visible on the Event page.
If "Hide presale details from consumers" is checked, the name and validity of the Promo will NOT be visible on the Event page. All the consumer will see is that there is a Presale scheduled.
This is useful if you are running several different presales at the same time (for different sponsors, for example).
An Event associated with a Presale Promo must have its “Publish Date” set before its “Web On Sale Date”, which triggers the presale functionality and is configured at the “Events” tab → “Event List”. Further details are provided on the Create/Edit an Event page.
Any Events associated with the presale must also be included in the "List of Events" of Presale Promo Rules, described below.

For example, the “Default” Fee Set, which contains all standard Fees associated with an Event Template, or any other bespoke Fee Set that should be associated with this Promo Rule. Note: Different rules within the same Promo can contain different Fee Sets if necessary. For example, if certain events should not have a booking fee charged.

-
Top Tip
: If the Promo should be valid for ALL performances, choose the “Exclusive” option and leave the Event List at the bottom of the screen blank. -
Top Tip

Add Events modal: Add events/performances that will be valid for use with your Promo. Search for events by using the filter, Event Date(s), Event Start Times, or Days of Week. Click "Find Events" to populate a list of events. Here you will search for performances that apply to the Inclusive or Exclusive application.
When the system has found relevant performances, check the box next to each event that should be added to the Promo Rule Event List. To select all events, check the box above the event list on the left-hand side of the page. Once all relevant events have been assigned, click the blue "Apply to Events" button at the bottom of the modal.
The Events/performances that the Inclusive or Exclusive application option applies to will appear in an Events list on the New Promotion Rule screen.
As performances take place, the Events will be removed from the list. If you want to remove a performance/Event from the list of included performances, click the “x” on the right-hand side of the event name and date.

Example Consumer Flow
Note: When configured by either a Price Level / Price Type (as shown above), this will allow the consumer to set all ticket(s) within their order to $0 price.
Using “Comp” as the Pricing Type within the Promo Rule
If the Comp is chosen as the Pricing Type, you will be able to also select whether a paid ticket must be included within the purchase. This means a Comp ticket can only be issued if it is accompanied by a paid ticket.
Note: "Requires at least one paid ticket" is only enforced on the Web sales channel.
With the requirement toggled on, a consumer will be presented with an error message when trying to checkout with only Comp tickets in their order.
