Important Note on Nliven iOS Scanning App Availability
Please note, when you are considering iOS scanning devices instead of Android (which offer a wider range of features), please keep the following in mind:
- iOS Camera Scanning - Nliven's iOS scanning app can work on any iOS version when utilizing the device camera for scanning tickets (further described in the Settings section of this article).
- Cradle Scanning - When utilizing cradle scanners, only Linea Pro 5 is supported, which is suitable for iPhone models such as iPhone 5s and iPod Touch 6/7. These devices can only upgrade to iOS 15.8.x, which limits future software updates.
Install iOS-Based Nliven Scanning App
-
Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
-
Tap the Search tab at the bottom.
-
In the search bar, type "Nliven".
-
Locate the Nliven Scanning App in the results.
-
Tap Download or Get to install the app on your device.
Logging in to the App
To log in to the app, a User must be set up a Role as a "Ticket Taker" and an invitation to create an account password received. For further information, visit Invite/Manage Users and Create/Edit User Groups.
- Log in to the app
Note: If a Ticket Taker has access to multiple Nliven accounts they will first need to log in to Nliven and select the relevent account they wish to log into on the Scanner to scan tickets for.
- To navigate between pages: Access the menu icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Options are "Scan", "Settings", and "Logout".
Settings
Active Event: Before you start scanning, choose the event (called the "Active Event" in the app). All QR codes scanned will be validated against the Active Event.
The app will display, in chronological order, the next 25 active events available for scanning. These events will be where the configured end date of the event is after the time the user is logging in, minus 12 hours.
Scan Direction: To scan customers IN to an event, choose "In"; to scan customers OUT of the event (in order to be scanned back in at a later point), choose "Out".
Allowed Price Levels: To change from the default option of "All" to specific price levels, click "All" and adjust as necessary. This option is useful if certain ticket takers in certain areas of the building should only scan tickets at specific price levels. For example, General Admission, Floor, etc.
Location Name: If set, this will populate in the scan details of a Nliven order. For example, East Door.
Scanning Mode: There are three modes you can scan with.
-
Camera - This will use the iOS device camera to read QR codes. It is slower than using an external scanner, but can also be used if having problems with external scanners.
- Keyboard Wedge - Choose this option when an external scanner is acting as a keyboard.
Note: The mode below is only applicable to iPod 7th Generation and iPhone SE.
-
Linea Pro - Choose this option when a Linea Pro external scanner is being used to read QR codes (This item is no longer available for purchasing).
Logging: Click "View logs" to see scanning logs.
Emergency Mode: Defaults to "Off"; can be used to continue scanning if Wi-Fi becomes unavailable.
Scanning
When using an iOS device Camera (i.e. iPhones 16e), hold the phone parallel to the QR code (holding it slanted makes it harder to read). You will see the camera attempt to focus on the QR code. You may need to do some experimenting to find the optimal distance to hold the device from the ticket to get the fastest scans.
Note: When using an External Scanner, aim the red lights at the QR code and pull the trigger.
A successful scan will return a green checkmark, while a failed scan will return a red X.
