This feature is for UK users enrolled in the national Theatre Tokens scheme.
Nliven has integrated with the Theatre Tokens API to enable real-time redemption directly through Point of Sale (POS) and Web.
To enable this feature please email nlivensupport@tixtrack.com or fill out our support form.
Integrated POS Redemption
On the Sell Tickets checkout page (further details provided in Sell Tickets (Point of Sale) page):
- Select “Theatre Token” as the payment type.
- Enter the Theatre Token number and PIN.
- Apply the payment.
Redeeming Paper Theatre Tokens
If a customer presents paper Theatre Tokens, these must be redeemed first — starting with the highest denomination.
Steps
- In the payment section, select “Theatre Token” as the payment type.
- Enter the Theatre Token details.
- Click Apply Payment.
- Repeat for any additional paper tokens.
- If there is a remaining balance, settle it with a credit card or Theatre Token Gift Card (these should be added last).
Overpayment Handling
If the total value of paper Theatre Tokens exceeds the order amount and a customer email address is provided:
- The customer will automatically receive an e-gift for the remaining balance.
Example:
Order total = £45
Paper Theatre Token = £50
→ Enter token details and complete purchase.
→ Customer receives a £5 Theatre Tokens e-gift via email.
Redeeming Theatre Token Gift Cards and e-Gifts
For Theatre Token Gift Cards or e-Gifts:
- If the order total is greater than or equal to the card balance, the full balance will be redeemed.
- If the card balance is greater than order total, only the order value will be deducted.
Note:
You cannot redeem a pre-defined amount from a Theatre Token Gift Card or e-Gift.
Steps
- In the Secure Payment section, select “Theatre Token”.
- Enter the Gift Card number and PIN.
- Apply the payment.
- Repeat for multiple cards if needed.
- Add any remaining payment (e.g., credit card) last.
Refunds
If an order paid with Theatre Tokens needs to be cancelled and refunded (further details provided in Orders Management page):
- Refunds can be issued back to Theatre Tokens.
- An e-gift will automatically be sent to the email address on the order.
Note:
You cannot refund other payment types (e.g., card payments) back to Theatre Tokens.
Error Messages
Error messages appear in a red box at the top right corner of the screen.
Examples:
- “That token or PIN was not correct. Please check and try again.”
- “Sorry, we could not verify those details. The token may no longer be active. Please contact Theatre Tokens for assistance.”
- “Sorry, that card has been spent. The balance is £0.”
- “Theatre Token available balance (£xx) does not match the specified payment amount (£xxx).”
Example: Theatre Token e-Gift (Issued as Change or Refund)
When a Theatre Token e-Gift is issued as change or refund, it will be sent automatically to the customer’s email address on the order.
Integrated Web Redemption
Customers can opt to redeem their Theatre Tokens online (Note: Consumer Checkout V2 must be enabled in order to access this feature).
In the payment method section of the checkout page, "Have a Theatre Token?" will appear if Theatre Tokens are enabled on the account.
When clicked, the customer will be able to apply their Theatre Tokens by inputting the details and clicking apply.
The same overpayment handling will apply to online redemptions as with POS redemptions. See above for details.
